Never Really Free

This piece embodies the ongoing repression of Indigenous knowledge systems. Inspired by the imposed idea that European civilisation "educated" South America, I created sculptural bundles wrapped in Ecuadorian Indigenous women’s ponchos and vibrant flat fabrics. These bundles are bound against the wall with tensioned ropes to portrait the forced suppression of ancestral wisdom—knowledge tailored to survival in lands shaped by earthquakes, flood, and dense jungles. Never Really Free exposes this continued bondage while highlighting the strength and endurance of Indigenous cultures.
